FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT SUNSYNC DRIVE XT

The following FAQ refers specifically to SunSync Drive XT. View the SunSync FAQ, SunSync Elite FAQ, or SunSync Elite XT FAQ for additional details on each product.

What is SunSync Drive XT?

SunSync Drive XT is a conventional extra reactive, light-reactive lens that gets darker outdoors and stays dark in the car.

What is the difference between SunSync Drive XT and Original SunSync?

SunSync Drive XT retains all the benefits of SunSync Light-Reactive Lenses while introducing in-car activation and a darker outdoor color.

What are the benefits of SunSync Drive XT?

SunSync Drive XT provides wearers the following benefits:
  • Excellent in-car color retention
  • Extra dark outdoor color
  • Ultra-clear indoor appearance
  • Good fade-back speed
  • Fast activation
  • 100% UV protection
  • Exceptional blue light filtration
  • Outstanding durability
  • One-year, 100% satisfaction guarantee for VSP  vision care members

How does SunSync Drive XT Compare to Transitions® XTRActive®?

In lab testing, SunSync Drive XT outperformed Transitions XTRActive in the following three categories.*
  1. Darker outdoor color
  2. Clearer indoor appearance
  3. Faster fade-back speed

How does SunSync Drive XT work?

SunSync Drive XT activates in response to both UV and visible light unlike standard photochromic lenses which activate in response to UV light only.

Why does SunSync Drive XT work in the car?

Standard photochromic lenses that only activate in response to UV light do not typically darken or stay dark in a car because most car windshields block UV light from entering the car.

SunSync Drive XT lenses activate in response to both UV and natural visible light. Therefore, the visible light coming through the windshield and side windows allows the lenses to retain color in the car.

Will SunSync Drive XT activate indoors in response to interior lighting?

SunSync Drive XT will not activate in response to interior lighting.

What materials are available with SunSync Drive XT?

SunSync Drive XT is available in 1.50 plastic, polycarbonate, Trivex, and 1.67 high-index.

What lens designs are available with SunSync Drive XT?

SunSync Drive XT is available on the following lens designs:
  • Unity® Progressive Lenses: Unity Via Elite, Plus, Via, Mobile, and Wrap; Unity PLx, PLxtra, and PLxtreme
  • Unity Via OfficePro

  • Conventional Single Vision

SunSync Drive XT is also available on Shamir lens designs.

What colors are available with SunSync Drive XT?

SunSync Drive XT is available in gray and brown.

What does SunSync Drive XT look like?

SunSync Drive XT is near-clear indoors and extra dark outdoors. In its activated state in the car, SunSync Drive XT is less dark than its fully activated outdoor color.

Is SunSync Drive XT compatible with other lens enhancements?

Yes. In fact, adding a premium anti-reflective coating like TechShield® Elite will enhance the performance of SunSync Drive XT. However, we do not recommend adding a blue-light-reducing AR coating like TechShield Blue because it intentionally reduces the amount of blue (visible) light reaching the lens, which can negatively impact lens performance.

How much blue light does SunSync Drive XT filter?

As a standard practice we do not promote a single fixed percentage of blue light reduction for any of our products. This is because we do not feel this is the most scientifically appropriate or accurate way to describe what the lenses are actually doing in terms of blue light reduction.

Instead, we publish spectral transmittance graphs for our products, which show the percentage of reduction at all wavelengths, not just certain points. The graphs show these curves for SunSync Drive XT in both the clear and dark states. View SunSync Drive XT spectral transmittance graphs here.

How can SunSync Drive XT be ordered?
