FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT SUNSYNC ELITE XT

The following FAQ refers specifically to SunSync Elite XT. View the SunSync FAQ, SunSync Drive XT FAQ, and SunSync Elite FAQ for additional details on each product.

What is SunSync Elite XT?

SunSync Elite XT is an ultra-fast, extra reactive, light-reactive lens that changes from extra dark to clear within 120 seconds.[1]

What is the difference between SunSync Elite XT and SunSync Elite?

SunSync Elite XT darkens in response to UV and natural visible light, whereas SunSync Elite darkens solely in response to UV light. SunSync Elite XT will get darker in the activated state than SunSync Elite and works in the car, which SunSync Elite does not.  Because of the level of darkness achieved outdoors, SunSync Elite XT has slightly slower fade-back speed than SunSync Elite, but is significantly faster than Transitions® XTRActive.

What is the difference between SunSync Elite XT and SunSync Drive XT?

SunSync Elite XT offers significantly faster fade-back speed than SunSync Drive XT. For patients with active lifestyles looking for a darker lens outdoors that fades back ultra-fast, SunSync Elite XT is the best choice.

How does SunSync Elite XT compare to Transitions XTRActive?

SunSync Elite XT compares to Transitions XTRActive as follows:
  • Faster fade-back speed[2]
  • Faster activation speed[3]
  • Comparable darkness and clarity
  • Superior blue light defense[4]
  • Longer photochromic performance lifespan[5]

What materials are available with SunSync Elite XT?

SunSync Elite XT is available in 1.50 plastic, polycarbonate, and 1.67 high-index. Please contact your VSP Ophthalmic Business Consultant for the most current availability.

What lens designs are available with SunSync Elite XT?

SunSync Elite XT is available on the following lens designs:
  • Unity® Progressive Lenses: Unity Via Elite, Plus, Via, Mobile, and Wrap. Unity PLx, PLxtra, and PLxtreme
  • Unity Via OfficePro
  • Unity Single Vision: Unity Relieve, Unity SVx, SVxtra, and SVxtreme
  • Ethos™ Progressive Lenses: Ethos, Ethos Plus
  • Conventional Single Vision

What colors are available with SunSync Elite XT?

SunSync Elite XT is available in gray.

What does SunSync Elite XT look like?

SunSync Elite XT is extra-dark outdoors and has some residual tint indoors.

How fast do SunSync Elite XT lenses activate and deactivate?

Due to the high number of environmental factors that impact performance of light-reactive lenses, it is difficult to accurately provide exact activation and deactivation times. SunSync Elite XT returns to clear in 120 seconds at 73.4°F.

Can anti-reflective coatings be applied to SunSync Elite XT?

Yes. In fact, adding a premium anti-reflective coating like TechShield® Elite will enhance the performance of SunSync Elite. Adding a blue-light-reducing AR coating like TechShield Blue, however, is not recommended because it intentionally reduces the amount of blue (visible) light that reaches the lens, which can negatively impact lens performance.

How much blue light does SunSync Elite XT filter?

As a standard practice we do not promote a single fixed percentage of blue light reduction for any of our products. This is because we do not feel this is the most scientifically appropriate or accurate way to describe what the lenses are actually doing in terms of blue light reduction.

Instead, we publish spectral transmittance graphs for our products – this shows the percentage of reduction at all wavelengths, not just certain points. The graphs show these curves for SunSync Elite XT in both the clear and activated states. View SunSync Elite XT spectral transmittance graphs  here.

How can SunSync Elite XT be ordered?
